Career Development Series: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Public Health

Course Information:

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Public Health series focuses on various career paths in public health, descriptions of these careers, personal experiences from the presenter, and the role that diversity, equity, and inclusion plays in the field of public health as well as in the workplace. Nadia Ali, MPA, Senior Consultant at Integrated Work, presents her personal career journey, advice for enhancing your career, and how you can work to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion in your career and community.


The objective of the Career Development Series is to expose students to various career paths and skills to help them be successful as a public health professional once they graduate. Specifically, this course contains recorded content from the Careers in Public Health series where public health professionals from Northern Nevada speak about the vast world of public health. 

This series is aimed to help students identify careers in public health, learn how to apply, interview, and ultimately gain insight to what careers in public health look like. Students will learn special tips and tricks to get their foot in the door to land their dream career!  


Learning Objectives:

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: 

  1. Identify careers in public health.
  2. Understand the benefits and importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in public health. 
  3. Understand how to navigate, succeed, and be a leader in a public health career. 
  4. Apply ways to enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.

About the Speaker

Nadia Ali, MPA has over 20 years of experience working in a variety of settings with people from various educational, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds. Her depth of experience spans program management, coalition building, leadership and workforce development, community outreach, health care reform and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) training and consulting.

She is passionate about health and racial equity and her work has primarily centered around increasing access to care in low-income and immigrant populations, creating leadership opportunities for underrepresented minorities, and increasing awareness and dialogue around health and racial equity. 

In her spare time, Nadia enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking and baking, being outdoors, and building community.
