Integrating Race Conversations into Healthy Patient-Provider Interactions

This live webinar defines and explores the definition of diversity and how it impacts the healthcare profession. We discuss integrating the topic of race into conversations from a place of learning, trust, and openness. Lastly, we dive into how to diversify healthcare practice by having a diversified mind by developing empathetic listening, understanding, and a connection and relationship with patients. 


The Health Equity Webinar Series is a free online webinar series designed to showcase dynamic work being accomplished to enhance health equity opportunities. This series discusses different innovative implementations, strategies, best practices, success stories, and experiences impacting health equity in communities served with public health professionals around the nation. This Health Equity Webinar course contains 5 modules: 

Health Equity Webinars are hosted live on the third Friday of each month at 10am PST.   

To join the live session, please enroll in the course before 10am PST on the day of the webinar. All Health Equity sessions are recorded. If you enroll after the live webinar session has ended, the course will contain a video recording of the live session you can watch instead. Please note, it may take up to one month for the recording to become available.


Learning Objectives:

Upon completing this webinar, participants will be able to 

  1. Identify ways to talk about race openly with patients, especially patients of color 
  2. Identify distinct ways they can learn more about patients from BIPOC communities
  3. Identify individual choices that will co-create positive change within their sphere of influence to increase patient-provider interactions with BIPOC communities
  4. Bring awareness of providers’ own biases and prejudices

About the Speakers


Calbeth Chika Alaribe, MPH, PA-S 

Calbeth Chika Alaribe is an accomplished and innovate global health program leader who is passionate about medicine, global healthcare management, and social entrepreneurship. She is committed to improving access to quality and affordable healthcare globally; as well as, diversifying the health workforce & promoting gender parity. She is a current Physician Assistant (PA) Student at Morehouse School of Medicine. Prior to attending PA school, she was Vice President of Healthcare Operations for Betal Home Care Services, LLC. and served as the Chapter Development Lead for Women in Global Health (WGH), an organization focused on achieving gender equality in healthcare leadership. As the Chapter Development Lead, she provided strategic direction and planning in developing chapters worldwide and expanding the presence of WGH in the global health community. Currently, she is the Co-Founder and Co-Chair of the Nigerian Chapter of WGH, and an advisory board member to the state of Georgia's (U.S) chapter. 

As a first- generationNigerian-American, Calbeth has a passion for developing sustainable and innovative initiatives that will solve complex global health issues and strengthen healthcare systems in Africa and the United States, including racism in healthcare. It is with this passion that she started a healthcare tech company, Coyfish. Coyfish aims to change the dynamic of healthcare by boldly dismantling traditional models while putting choice and power back in the hands of patients.  She serves as the CEO/Co-Founder of the company. Calbeth completed her Master's in Public Health with a concentration in global health at Emory University. She is also a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives. 

Liora Schneider- Mirmanas, Psy.D

Liora Schneider-Mirmanas, Psy.D

 Dr. Schneider-Mirmanas is an accomplished psychologist and speaker. Born and raised in Mexico she has more than 20 years of experience in Clinical Psychology in Mexico and in the United States. Dr. Schneider-Mirmanas earned her bachelor's degree with honors from Universidad Iberoamericana her Masters's in Clinical Psychology from Instituto Mexicano de la Pareja, a Specialization in Addictions from Centro de Estudios Superiores Monte Fenix in Mexico City, and a doctorate in clinical psychology at Chestnut Hill College, Philadelphia. She is certified in Mind-Body Medicine in the center of Mind-Body Medicine in Washington, D.C, and in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction from Palouse Institute. Currently, she is a postdoctoral fellow at Swarthmore College Counseling Center in Philadelphia. 

Dr. Schneider-Mirmanas is a strong believer in social justice and since she started her career in Mexico she has been involved in providing education, prevention, and psychological resources to underserved communities. She has wide experience teaching in the undergrad and in the master’s level in the United States as well as in Mexico and she has been invited as a presenter in conferences about addictions in Mexico. 

As a bilingual and bicultural psychologist, she has been engaged with the Latinx community in the United States, providing therapy and education throughout the years. Dr. Schneider-Mirmanas is currently creating and developing programs for the Mexican Consulate in Philadelphia to support the Latinx community, providing information and mental health resources. She is currently the coordinator of a program of workshops that will help the Latinx community develop skills to manage anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns. 

Dr. Schneider-Mirmanas has been invited several times as the mental health consultant in Qualitas of Life, a non-profit organization that provides financial advice to the Latinx community in New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Pittsburgh and as a presenter in the Mexican consulate in Philadelphia. 

Ogechi Violet Nwordu, Psy.D 

Dr. Ogechi Violet Nwordu is an accomplished psychologist and educator. She earned her bachelor's degree at Eastern Illinois University, her Masters in Education and Educational Specialist at Indiana State University, and a doctorate in clinical psychology at Chestnut Hill College. She is a catalyst for ensuring health equality and social justice for marginalized communities. She is committed to fostering greater health outcomes improvement for individuals regardless of social-economic status, race, sex, or gender. 

Dr. Nwordu has a combined 19 years of educational and professional experience in the field of psychology. Currently, she serves as a Staff Psychologist at the University of Delaware. While working at the university, she also leads the university’s anti-racism grant-funded research that focuses on fostering racial healing within the BIPOC college community. Dr. Nwordu has published articles on health equality in peer-reviewed scholarly journals and has received multiple awards and scholarships. Additionally, she is the Co-founder and Chief Innovation Officer for Coyfish, a company that is dismantling the traditional healthcare model and putting power back into patients’ hands. Since immigrating to the U.S. from a small village in PortHarcourt, Nigeria, Dr. Nwordu has forged a path of accelerated academic and professional success. Outside of her work, research, and volunteer activities, Dr. Nwordu makes time for her family, consisting of her husband, mother, and children. She also enjoys running.
