Sustainable Global Health Projects in the Aché Communities of Paraguay

Webinar Information

Live Webinar on December 17, 2021 at 10am PST. Recording to follow.

Over 40 years ago the indigenous Aché people living in the eastern region of Paraguay were forcibly driven out of their land to make room for industrial agriculture. Their hunting and gathering way of life was completely disrupted by deforestation, and now they are forced to live in small reservations and are struggling to adapt to this new environment. Rich cultures such as the Aché are slowly disappearing, and are ever more marginalized due to the lack of resources and support for government agencies.

Future Kind is an international non-profit organization dedicated to co-creating a vibrant and just world and strive to provide equitable opportunities.  Future Kind has been working with various indigenous communities in Paraguay to address some of the major issues they face. Lack of access to health care, potable water and food insecurity are a few of the obstacles these communities need to overcome for the ability to thrive.

Conducting interventions with indigenous communities who have been devastated by colonialism requires a substantial effort in trust building. This presentation will provide an overview of the Aché indigenous community, the disparities they face, and process of building trust and alliances with local stakeholders to conduct sustainable health improvement interventions and programs.
