Fatal Opioid Overdoses in Nevada's Latinx Population

The Overdose Data to Action program is the state of Nevada's main source of CDC funding for fatal and non-fatal overdose surveillance. In June of 2021, the Overdose Data to Action Program released their 2020 Overdose Fatality Data. The program noticed an overwhelming 220% increase in overdoses in the Latinx community. This presentation will review the Nevada's fatal overdose data, take a deep dive into the concerning overdose data in the Latinx population, and discuss the program’s next steps for engaging the Latinx community.


The Health Equity Webinar Series is a free online webinar series designed to showcase dynamic work being accomplished to enhance health equity opportunities. This series discusses different innovative implementations, strategies, best practices, success stories, and experiences impacting health equity in communities served with public health professionals around the nation.

About the Speakers

Elyse Monroy, Public Health Diversity Advisory & Manager of the Overdose Data to Action Program

Elyse Monroy is the Nevada Overdose Data to Action Program Manager. OD2A is the state’s main source of CDC funding for fatal and nonfatal overdose surveillance. Elyse has worked on Opioid Abuse prevention policy and program development since 2015 when she was the Lead Staff of the Sandoval Administration. Elyse championed the passage of SB459 in 2015, wrote and championed AB474, and wrote the state’s first opioid use prevention strategic plan.
