Addressing the Intersection of Domestic Violence and HIV

Survivors of domestic violence living with HIV have a unique set of needs when accessing services that cannot be addressed by domestic violence or HIV organizations alone. This webinar will go over beliefs and attitudes about both HIV and Domestic Violence, and work to dismantle the stigma surrounding both.     


The Health Equity Webinar Series is a free online webinar series designed to showcase dynamic work being accomplished to enhance health equity opportunities. This series discusses different innovative implementations, strategies, best practices, success stories, and experiences impacting health equity in communities served with public health professionals around the nation. 

Health Equity Webinars are hosted live on the third Friday of each month at 10 am PST.   

To join the live session, please enroll in the course before 10am PST on the day of the webinar. All Health Equity sessions are recorded. If you enroll after the live webinar session has ended, the course will contain a video recording of the live session you can watch instead. Please note, it may take up to one month for the recording to become available.


Learning Objectives:

Upon completing this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the language across each field. 
  2. Identify beliefs and attitudes that impact access to and provision of services.
  3. Explore our role in dismantling domestic violence and HIV stigma.
  4. Examine personal comfort levels when providing services to survivors of domestic violence, or people living with HIV.

About the Speaker

Lindsay Yates, NCEDSV Event Coordinator  

Lindsay Yates is the Event Coordinator for the Nevada Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence.  Lindsay entered the domestic and sexual violence movement four years ago, and seeks to make a difference through education.  Their role at NCEDSV allows them to reach a large audience of folks who work with victim-survivors, including advocates, law enforcement, healthcare workers, and more.  Lindsay is passionate about making sure LGBTQIA+ survivors have equitable access to comprehensive services, and the use of gender-inclusive language in the movement.  


Guy Marquez, Northern Nevada HOPES Infectious Disease Program Coordinator



Gus Marquez is the Infectious Disease Program Coordinator at Northern Nevada HOPES Clinic in downtown Reno. He has been with the agency for about 5 years.  Gus stared at HOPES as the Retention in Care Case Manager, and has done everything from integration case management, to intake and eligibility for HIV+ patients under the Ryan White grants. In his previous roles, Gus worked with patients in direct, patient facing services, and as the ID Program Coordinator, assists patients on the macro level. Through his experience and time as a case manager, Gus finds that working with and assisting underserved and marginalized populations, is his true passion.
