Understanding the Health-Related Experiences of Gender Diverse Adults

In 2020, the Nevada Public Health Training Center, in partnership with the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health and the Office of HIV/AIDS, administered the 2020 Hope Grows for Transgender Health Survey for gender diverse adults living and working in Nevada. The purpose of this formative assessment was to gather data on the health needs of gender diverse adults living and working in Nevada, focusing specifically on understanding access and barriers to health care services, identifying needs and resources, experiences with abuse and discrimination, COVID-19, sexual health, and HIV. This presentation is intended to present the main findings from the 2020 Hope Grows for Transgender Health Survey in order to identify and bridge the gap between the needs of gender diverse adults and available health resources.

The Health Equity Webinar Series is a free online webinar series designed to showcase dynamic work being accomplished to enhance health equity opportunities. This series discusses different innovative implementations, strategies, best practices, success stories, and experiences impacting health equity in communities served with public health professionals around the nation. 

Health Equity Webinars are hosted live on the third Friday of each month at 10am PST.

If you enroll after the live webinar session has ended, the course will contain a video recording of the live session you can watch instead. Please note, it may take up to one month for the recording to become available.

About the Speakers


Taylor Lensch, PhD, MPH

Taylor Lensch, PhD, MPH, is the Associate Director, Center for Community Engaged Research in Practice for the Trudy Larson, MD Institute for Health Impact and Equity (LIHIE) at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR). In his current role, Taylor manages community engaged research in practice initiatives with LIHIE for a variety of important public health topics including COVID-19, HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, and sexual and gender minority health. Additionally, Taylor oversees a team of Disease Investigation Managers, Disease Investigators, Contact Tracers, and COVID-19 Call Center staff who are working on the COVID-19 public health response and recovery efforts in Nevada. In addition to his role as a Research Manager and Contact Tracing Manager, Taylor also teaches undergraduates courses, including Epidemiology and Biostatistics, for the School of Public Health at UNR. After studying Biology as an undergraduate student, Taylor received his MPH and PhD in Public Health from the School of Public Health at UNR.
