AAPHP Webinar: Using Technology for Internship Management Webinar and Town Hall

The Council on Education for Public Health's accreditation criteria for Schools of Public Health and Public Health Programs requires MPH Applied Practice Experiences. These experiences allow students to demonstrate attainment of competencies. Internship management systems are important tools utilized across programs to assist in the organization and management of internships for cohorts of students. This webinar will highlight successfully CEPH accredited programs who have utilized technology software to manage internships. 

Following the webinar will be a town hall, allowing participants to continue the conversation and connect with other programs on internship management systems and CEPH accreditation. 



AAPHP webinars are a free online webinar series designed to support and represent member programs through the accreditation process and in preparing a competent public health workforce. Each webinar takes approximately 1-hour to complete.

To join the live session, please enroll in the course before 10am PST on the day of the webinar. All sessions are recorded. If you enroll after the live webinar session has ended, the course will contain a video recording of the live session you can watch instead. Please note, it may take up to one month for the recording to become available.

About the Speakers

Kristen Varol, MPH, PMP, CHES,  Council on Education for Public Health 

 Kristen Varol has worked at CEPH since 2010 providing consultation to and staffing accreditation reviews for schools and programs across the US and internationally. She is the primary staff contact for units interested in pursuing initial accreditation and those located outside of the US. Kristen supports internal consistency in accreditation reviews across a staff  of nine site visit coordinators. She has presented at professional meetings about accreditation best practices and on CEPH accreditation criteria, particularly in relation to MPH curricula.

Kristen received her MPH in health behavior and health promotion from Ohio State University. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from California State University, Long Beach.

Melanie Flores, MSW, University of Nevada, Reno 

 Melanie Flores is the Student Services Coordinator for the School of Public Health at the University of Nevada, Reno. Ms. Flores has her Master of Social Work degree and is currently  working on her Ph.D. in Political Science for Public Policy and Policy Administration from the University of Nevada, Reno. Ms. Flores has worked extensively for the last ten years in public health concentrating efforts in workforce and program development, program evaluation, quality improvement and policy in the fields of Chronic Disease and HIV/AIDS. Previous to public   health, she spent 12 years working in commercial radio as a program director and on-air personality. Additionally, she teaches at the University of Nevada, Reno within the School of Public Health covering topics such as Field Studies, Health Communications, Personal Health and Well-being, and HIV/AIDS. Ms. Flores is a founding member of the Nevada Public Health Alliance for Safety Access (PHASA), which pushed forth two major pieces of health policy legislation in Nevada related to syringe services programs and naloxone access to prevent opioid overdose deaths. Ms. Flores was recognized for her work by the Northern Nevada HIV Prevention Planning Group through a HIV Prevention and Care Community Award for her policy work to increase access to syringe service programs in Nevada.

Sally is an experienced student placements practitioner with years of experience at The University of Otago (New Zealand), who has recently joined QSR International as the Product and Community Director.
