HEWS October 2021: Equitable Diabetes Care
Webinar Series
Webinar Information
Live Webinar on October 15, 2021 at 10am PST. Recording to follow.
Racial and ethnic health disparities have been well documented in diabetes treatments and outcomes. It remains controversial whether or not these disparities result from differences in socioeconomic factors or other factors like institutionalized racism. We need health equity in diabetes care for a number of reasons. People of color and other marginalized groups don't access diabetes education and support at the rates of non-Hispanic whites and are often not aware of different diabetes treatment options available to them. They don't utilize diabetes technology at the rates of non-Hispanic white, they are not represented in clinical trials and research studies, and there is a serious lack of representation of healthcare providers and diabetes educators of color. In this presentation, Quisha will share how the new non-profit organization Diversity in Diabetes is proactively approaching diversity in the diabetes space and working to advance health equity in diabetes care and management.
